Bawomataluo Village - the heritage of the world site in Nias

Nias island was never separated from the fascinating stories of uniqueness that has both charming natural and the tradition of community life that is priceless. The uniqueness of the island of Nias can not mention one by one. this is because the potential in the possession of this island very much.

However, this time I will discuss one of the place that should be a list of visits as ancestral Nias people for every person who comes to this island is Bawomataluo village. This traditional village is in the south of the island of Nias in the city of Teluk dalam. This village is one of the villages that had been named as a world heritage site by UNESCO.

Bawomataluo village’s name has meaning for the nias people is bukit matahari (Sun hill). This explains the location of a cultural village, Bawomataluo located on a hill with a height of 324 meters above sea level. Besides the village is also often named as land above the clouds. The actually reason is same as the above is due to land on the clouds are located on a hill and If we wanted to see the secret on this village then we had to go up through a round of 86 pieces stairs and when you reached the top, first thing to do is turn arround your body slowly. Bawomatauo village is one of the ancestral village people nias are hundreds of years old. then, the uniqueness Bawomataluo village is a traditional village that has dozens of traditional houses as if try to greet every traveller who coming. The traditional houses in the village Bawomataluo shaped rectangular and the great of traditional house was established by not using any nails as a hook between  one wood with the other wood. strongness of Nias traditional house is already beyond a reasonable doubt. The proof is when Nias island hit by earthquake of 8.7 on the Richter scale in 2005, no one of the traditional house in Nias collapsed.

One of the things that will make your eyes wide open that is when you will see a large house there and taller than other traditional houses called the house of the king. This house is in the middle of the village in which there are paintings and ornaments nias that it’s beauty will never be forgotten. Moreover, in the king's house there are many pig jaw hung on the side wall of the king's house. This pig jaw as a symbol of position in society. Basic the tradition of Nias in ancient times, the position of the nias judged by how much someone slaughter of the pigs and conduct massive party in front of the whole other community. If someone is already doing the party then he will be awarded a peerage in accordance with the party that has been held. the highest man on the island of Nias was called as Balugu and equal as a  king.

As for other things can be found in a traditional village, Bawamataluo is the existence of megaliths stone in front of every tradisional house. Many megaliths stone that are hundreds of years old and very large, heavy and carved beautifully. The existence of this megaliths stone as a symbol that the Nias formerly consider the togetherness as high priority. Besides, proving that the nias have expertise in carving the stone.

Apart of traditional house relics and megaliths stone, in the middle of the village there is also a collection of stones as high as 2 meters 10 centimeters. This stone is a stone that is used as a tool to show the unique and the most famous attractions on the island of Nias and also in the world is stone jumping attraction.. This attraction will show some handsome young men who would jump at a height of 2 meters 10 centimeters stone. It was an incredible sight, seeing someone like a fly on the strong stone
